Adopted in 1975; The Angola flag has two equal horizontal bands of red (top) and black with a centered yellow emblem consisting of a five-pointed star within half a cogwheel crossed by a machete (in the style of a hammer and sickle). The red represents liberty, black the African continent, the symbols characterize workers and peasants symbolizing the workers and industrial production. A machete symbolizing the peasants, agricultural production and the armed struggle; and a star, symbolizing international solidarity and progress. The cog wheel, the machete and the star shall be yellow, symbolizing the country's wealth.
